No Money For Food

Samantha V (New Jersey):

I was diagnosed with manic depressive disorder so I am unable to find a job since 2013. I’m receiving pension monthly. My children’s father got hurt and has been out of work since May 15th of this year so that means all the bills have fallen on me. He is still waiting for workman’s comp due to his work injury. I’m a month behind in rent and now my car battery died and this has caused a strain because public transportation is a no go for me with my disability. Because of the previous month borrowing money for food and necessities, I get Snap assistance but that doesn’t come until the 5th of every month and my dd hits on the 26th. So I’m buying food and paying back those I borrowed from so by the time I get my snap, my check is basically gone and I still have the whole month to go.
