$16 Left and No Power

Carla M (Arizona):

My utilities are due to shut off. 3 months ago the VA shorted my disability check by $700 and we’ve been behind on all of our bills ever since. On top of that, my husband’s hours got cut from 30 hours a week to 18 which happens a lot in Arizona in the summer time. In the summer, is our electric bill almost triples due to the 100-118 degree heat. We have had a hard time meeting our basic needs. We disconnected our cable which could be considered a luxury item. We have $21 left on our electric meter which will only last about 2 to 3 days. We have no cash, no credit cards and no one that can help us with electricity. I have severe asthma and I won’t do well with no air conditioning in this heat. We really need help with our electric bill. Arizona in this area uses Salt River Project for electricity and we are on a prepaid meter plan. When the money runs out of our prepaid meter, the electricity goes off.
